I'm not sure what this box is for. it's about 5 inches long by 2.5 in wide and 2.5 inches high and has a divided interior. The simplicity of the box design contrasts nicely w/ the elaborate decoration on top.

Could it be to hold a couple decks of playing cards? I have a couple similar 'decorated boxes' (not shown yet) also with similar kinds of dividers inside, and have assumed (perhaps quite wrongly?) that's what mine were...??
yes AnythingO, i figured that out after posting this. slightly diff size than modern cards. could be a hint for when it was made. i restored the veneer sort of. will repost later.
Cool, would make a nice recipe box!
