This Iwachu citrus themed kyusu is small, holding only 6.8 ounces and weighs 25.3 ounces, so small but a chunk. I have had this for awhile but had put it away since it is new old stock in the original box. It is pre-1989 but no idea of the actual production date. The boxed set contained the kyusu and a fan shaped, turtle themed nabeshiki (trivet). I forgot to measure it when I had it out but I think it is roughly the same size as my mystery maker persimmon kyusu, or a bit larger, so about 4" in diameter and about 3" high, minus spout and handle.

Citrus themed kyusu are an iconic form but they appear in several configurations, two leaf, three leaf, and four leaf. This one is the most common configuration that I found while researching them. I prefer the kyusu that have a horizontal stem shaped finial, but this one was a good deal and it is fairly rare to find an older one like this that has not been used. I will do a separate post for the nabeshiki.

This persimmon cast iron kyusu is totally gorgeous, love the color and design, the leaf has almost a heart shape. The turtle fan trivet is also wonderful, great score Kevin!

Thanks for your comments Jenni! I watched this one for a couple of months before pulling the trigger. One of these has been on my list for a long time. There were two of them on an online auction site for months at the same price, both new in the box, but the other one did not come with a trivet. I dithered back and forth between the two until I settled on this one.

Thanks Karen! Yeah the coloring is what grabbed me.

Thanks Eileen! I like the set and the configuration of the kyusu very much. Yes! Turtles do have a meaning in Japanese culture. I stole the text below from Wikipedia:

"According to traditional Japanese beliefs, the tortoise is a haven for immortals and the world mountain, and symbolizes longevity, good luck, and support. It is the symbol of Kompira, the god of seafaring people."

Thanks jscott0363! It is a corker. I like this design a lot. A few Japanese foundries use this color scheme.

Thanks for taking a look at my latest kyusu set Watchsearcher, blunderbuss2, aura, jscott0363, Eileen, Hoot60, Karen, Kevin and Jenni!
