I've owned these for many years and were given to me by another collector who had no idea what they are. Figured eventually I would find out what they are used for. In 25 years have only seen one other identical to the one on the right. Owner did not know what it was for either.
The parts on the lower part of the first photo are the bottom of the tool. They are made of bronze the top Parts with handles are made of I believe cast iron. I believe these were heated to perform their job. What they are for no clue. Making some sort of silk designed things, cooking,,,, they fit fairly close together but not super tight, enough room for something to be formed. If anyone has knowledge it would be greatly appreciated after Decades of head-scratching.

My total and complete guess: molds to make little pastry 'cups' to in turn fill with something yummy, for fancy little dessert items...?

Reminds me of a jello mold. Since I just watched discovery channel's Foods That Built America, maybe they are chocolate molds?

Thank you to all of you who have been helpful in identifying this. Was recently cleaning when I came across it and said to myself that I really must do something about it and thanks to the people here at CW it has been solved. Really appreciated.
