This set is wonderful and I especially would love to see these worn together, as in the first photo !~

Very nice and fancy little bluebirds! The long flowing tail feathers and wings remind me of those birds of paradise, the details on these are great- the leaves and little stones added are a great little embellishment to have with them!

      Oh Jenni,
These are SOooo beautiful! The birds are so incredibly detailed.

Hi Jenni, You lovely Duette dates from 1941. The Duette is in the Brunialti book American Costume Jewelry Art and Industry 1935-1950, Vol A-N. The design patent is 127,909, the clip patent is 179,8867. Adolph Katz gets the design credit.

The patent has slightly different tails on the birds, but I think that' s the date for this and the design provenance and origin.

Maureen thank you for investigating the patents on this duette, I really appreciate it. Funnily enough, I have both Brunialti volumes but am often too lazy to look through them! The actual number of the clip patent is 179,8887 not 8867, and these birds look rather different than the lovebirds pictured - do you have a photo ref for patent 128,823 pheasants, 129,433 bird of paradise or 133,479 birds blue jay? My usual point of reference are the Julia Carroll books which only illustrate a handful. Always grateful for your input :)

Thanks Phil for your awesome comment, agreed these birds look much better together rather than singly & a brooch is much easier to wear than a clip

Lauren thank you for your lovely compliments I too love those flowy tail feathers it's a very stylish design. I have several of the Coro Duette birds and they are always uplifting to me as a bird lover, from owls to lovebirds the designer had a good fantasy imagination. Maybe these are birds of paradise I could not find the exact image in my ref books but have seen them online

Thank you Scott for your fabulous praise, I agree about the detail, Coro although an older designer was very attentive to detail & their pretty designs still hold up today

Maureen thank you for your super research effort, if you read my comment above I also checked out the Brunialti book (there was also an illustration of that bird duette in the Julia Carroll books) I think it is a different bird pair as the clip patent no. 179,8887 is different from the one pictured in the books, and if you notice the designs are very different - those lovebirds have open mouths as opposed to the closed black beaks here, and my wings more flouncy. It's possible they are the pheasants as they are the next patent up, or maybe the bluejays as some jays are not crested. Let me know if you come across the exact piece with patent number I'd appreciate it so much

Elisabeth thank you for your great praise, I am so happy you enjoyed this Coro bird piece. Yes it is delightful that it can change from brooch to clip, but agree with Phil they look better as a pair, and hope to have occasion to wear it once these "anti-social" rules are lifted
