This marks the beginning of a restoration I am doing on my grandmother’s grandfather clock. The clock was purchased by her in the 90’s at an antique market near stonington, CT. We do not know who owned it before then, but the brand says it is a Gustave Becker. Both the face and the workings have the initials ‘GB’ however, when i showed our local clock repairs-men , he said that the case was not a traditional style for that brand. He thinks that at some point, the workings and face were taken out of a wall clock case, and then put into this case. I am curious what the original brand may have been for the case itself, or if the workings are original to the case after all. I appreciate all who can give me some info, if you need more information (with the little amount of information i have) just post it in the comments.

I think your local clock-smith is right on the money. That "new" wood in your 2nd photo stands out like a sore thumb. It looks like a genuine antique case, but if there are no markings on it, there's no telling where it came from. Looks nice. I hope that you're not planning to strip and refinish it.

no marks on the gears ..?? couldn't help but notice the little coffee machine and the cast iron fish under it ..I have one like it from japan mine has a cast iron ball inside as part of the wind charm...yours ...?? love the patienter on the clock,.. hate to see it go....later

That is my grandmothers house. I will have to ask her about the fish. Yes I'm realizing now that the patina that was on the clock was pretty cool, but hopefully i can make it worth while and it will look even more beautiful in the end.

Thanks! My dad hand-built those workbenches you see in the background. I might post some photos of his basement and tools too!

I'm not a clock expert by any means but #1. It's a beautiful clock and I bet the chime sounds amazing! #2. The screws in the last pic appear to be old, but not as old as the clock #3. I don't think the original handmade case would have screws in that area.

I'm sure your grandmother will appreciate you taking the time to make it chime again!
