    Another thrift store find, dateable by the mark to later than 1891 and before 1912, the gilding is in remarkable condition and there are no
    cut or wear marks. Wilkinson's later employed Clarice Cliff as designer.

      That black enamel line decor drew me in because I see it so often in Japanese ceramics and don't understand it. Looks like someone took a Sharpie and drew irregular lines on the piece, nonconformant to the rest of the symmetrical design. Can someone explain this? Also why is this pattern called Cairo?

      Thanks for the comment/questions katherinescollections Cairo certainly is a puzzler -perhaps they were working through a list of Capitals !
