Approximately 4'x4' velvet, silk and damask crazy quilt. Exact date unknown, but pre- 1828, as that was immigration date. Made by my great x 4 aunt dressmaker in Austria or perhaps by her neice as a teaching tool. Edged in red velvet, backed in red silk, family rumor has it that it served as a shroud for an infant who died on the ship.

wow I am in love with the different approach the creator of this saw with the spider web,and flutterby . They also changed their embroidery stitch when sewing pieces together. Beautiful . I hope you store it well . The type of material used sometimes helps date . I would like to see back ?

Thanks, Manikin! I included a pic of the back. I thought the back was silk, but after re-examing it, I believe it is a sheened cotton, with a lot of the sheen gone. For the last sixty years it was folded in a cedar chest and never displayed. I have it gently hung on my wall until I can afford to have it framed or something.
