    I wonder when and where this was made. I"ve found a few pieces of dark brown stoneware lately. Stoneware seems to be American Mingei!

      Agree on the American mingei concept. There was a local 19th century pottery that made a very distinctive large jar, immediately recognizable by locals, but not marked. Definite folk ware.
