What else floats on water? A DUCW! Although this one won't as it is almost a solid chunk of metal. Just a note it is pronounced Duck.
A DUCW was an amphibious vehicle used in WWII. It was based on a 2 1/2 ton truck and designed to bring supplies from ship to shore. They were not armored so not meant for the first wave.
The model was introduced in 1958 and sold through 1962. It started out with metal wheels, then grey plastic wheels and finally black wheels. No one seems to now when they the wheels were changed but I would put this around 59-61. No exciting moving features on this one as is typical with early models.
San Diego has DUKW tours so I may take a trip down there as I have some vacation time coming. Plenty of exciting items coming up so be sure and stay tuned to this website.
Let the games begin !
Thank you very much bb2.
