Wood Carved Figure of Not Sure?

    8 1/2" tall

At first I thought this was an Indian figure. And if you look at his mouth, it looks like there was a pipe or cigar? BUT...after closer examination, the ears are pointed and it looks like a miner hat and light? So ..maybe a elf or mythical creature?

It's beautifully carved. I used some beeswax to help preserve it and make the details stand out.

    Unsolved Mystery

Looks like he just found out that his wife survived the attack.

It looks like a pregnant (fertility?) woman spirit grotesque. The headpiece almost looks Egyptian in the last photo. It MAY be to scare away evil spirits from a pregnant woman. I'm thinking African. Possibly down New Guinea way, maybe.

Here's one that is not as nice as yours:

That would be my guess. Anything on the bottom?

Nothing on the bottom. There's a hole on the left side of the mouth, like it had a pipe or cigar. I've seen the fertility figures before...I'm still leaning towards mythical creature...some sort of elves. Keep thinking lord of the rings creatures...lol
