Roosevelt's "Rough Riders" or the 1st US Volunteer Cavalry was probably the most well known and written about unit of the era. The victory in the battle of San Juan Hill was largely credited to the Rough Riders, while other units fought just as bravely and received little credit.
The fascination with these troops continues today.
