This particular view is hard to find and very prized among collectors.
The view shows Edison in his laboratory in East Orange, New Jersey.
The World wide popularity of the stereoview is evident on the back. The back has the information on Edison in six languages-- English, French, German, Spanish, Italian, and Russian.
This view is published by Underwood & Underwood. They made a similar view about 20 years later that can be found in their gray mount views.

This is awesome! My Dad has a great appreciation of Thomas Edison and because of this I learned to as well because of how fascinating of an individual he is. This is an amazing piece of history scottvez. Thank you so much for sharing. Please make sure to have a great week! : )

I like the view because it shows him in the lab with all of his equipment.
The later gray mount view is interesting because it shows him 20 years later, this hard at work! Both views bring good money when they come up for sale.

An incredible find, wonder if similar to one of todays 3D techniques of left right split with offset?
Stereoviews are taken by a special stereo camera-- 2 lenses capture the image at the same time, but from a slightly different perspective.
When the images are paired up, mounted on a card, and then viewed through a stereoscope-- the 3D effect appears.
This technology was very popular in the US in the late 19th century- early 20th century. Many family had a stereoscope and collections of view cards. The cards could be purchased in a series: "Tour of the World", "Africa", "World War", etc... Some cards were also available for individual purchase.

My wife owns a couple Stereoscopes and we've always heard about the Edison card.
There is a later version on the WW1 era gray mount that is a little easier to find. The neat thing is that Edison is in almost the same pose at the same spot in his lab.
I have seen several of the gray mount views on ebay, but never the early tan mount image.

Thanks nicefice! Edison is a popular subject as well. These early brown mount views bring pretty good money.
