This is an AZO with triangles Real Photo PostCard (RPPC) that dates from the WW1 era.
In his hand the soldier is holding a WW1 shell with an applied emblem-- probably a 37mm shell from the Infantry Gun M1917.
On the tree trunk he has laid out his pocket watch (looks like 1230) and his pocket knife.
A very unusual pose for the era. I don't encounter a lot of these photos showing trench art in its original era of production.
