I got this lovely brooch recently (off ebay again). It was an absolute bargain and described as vintage, but there is a Wedgwood backstamp, no England mark, so it probably dates before 1891. The metal isn't very special - maybe copper, or some other not so valuable metal. but a bargain for £8!
Adele this is a beautiful Wedgwood jasperware brooch, I love their cameo scenes with cherubs - super deal!
And a very Happy Easter to you & yours
Happy Easter to you Jenni.
Well found Adele. Proves you have to know stuff to get the good bargains. A beautiful bargain it is too!
The scene is a famous one, 'The Seller of Cupids'. The original is a fresco at either Pompeii or Herculaneum, I forget which.
The frame is unusual & attractive. I like it even if it is gilt brass (?). Based on construction of mount, think you are correct on the dating.
