These early Deadwood, Dakota Territory views are very hard to find.
Image appears to be a copy image of a large view, but it still shows some great details.
The image appears to date from the 1880s, but I don't know the specific date.
This copy image bears the photographic stamp of "Jas (James) H. Lucas, Photographer" along with the inked photographer location of "Standing Rock, I.T. (Indian Territory)". Lucas is known to have photographed in the Dakotas in this era.
While the layout of Deadwood is distinctive enough to identify by sight, there is also an inked id of "Dead Wood City, Black Hills" above the photographer information.
My original cdv and my images posted here. Copying/ reproducing these images in any form is prohibited.
