Here is a 4"H x 4 1-2"W cranberry speckled glass elephant with trunk raised from the 1970s animal series by Ronald Stennett Willson for Wedgwood Glass.
This elephant was also made in a trunk down version, shown in green here on CW by our friend AdeleC

Very cute- love the deep wine colour on this one and trunk up is always better- it's always up for good luck! :) It feels like he's the next animal I'm seeing on safari of your uploads this week- first I see giraffes and now I come across this fabulous elephant!

I love shapes like this. Very simple but so real and expressive. And that cranberry glass is delicious!

Thanks so much BHIFOS for your great comment, yes the general feeling is that trunk up means good fortune and I am all for that!!

Lauren I love your awesome comments and you have me pegged as going on safari this wk - I actually just got done watching a TV doc where that animal guy Jack Hanna was visiting an African preserve, and they were letting an elephant paint a freeform picture with his trunk, and he actually seemed to be enjoying it lol! Although immense, elephants are usually quite docile unless they are angered or stampeding, then look out right. Agree about the trunk up, figures of them are supposed to be facing the front door or northeast for the best 'feng shui' luck, I'll have to remember that. And I too love that deep berry or wine shade, it's quite a happy color

Scott thank you for your super comment and another vote for trunk up, most of my elephants have the trunk raised but must admit there are a couple with trunk down - my superstitious grandma would only allow trunk up figures in her house, and the elephants with side of nose horns are supposed to be even luckier (she had a few in porcelain). The speckled glass is really cool I like it too, it has a raindrop look to me

Thank you Alfie for your fabulous compliments, I am totally thrilled that you really loved this piece - I often think we should have three boxes for like, love and super love! It is so nice of you to say, I have found that the features of British glass animals (Wedgwood, Langham) are really special, like speckles, swirls & looks of stone on glass, very creative. Stay tuned I have another cool one coming up

Thank you MrsT for your lovely comment I am so glad you found this color appealing, it was only occasionally used in the Wedgwood glass animals but the speckled pattern is always striking

Phil thank you for the wonderful praise, he is quite the cute fella isn't he, and he looks terrific anywhere I put him but I've got to find a special place

Thanks Karen for your fabulous comment, isn't the shape of this elephant's head great, the glassmaker really knew how to creatively beautify this animal, as you said simple but super expressive. And I truly love that cranberry speckled color too it's so calming, not over stimulating like its redder cousins
