Just found this old crock and was interested if anyone knows any thing about this piece. It is signed PAT APP FOR BAUER on the bottom

What you have here is the top part of what was called a "Sanitary Chick Fount". The bottom part is a flat bowl a little larger than the opening. They were made in four sizes. You can probably do an image search to see the complete item.
