Just pick up for free a bitch to move by myself .... I has cast iron legs old wood and metal on top ..... does anybody know the Manufacture or if it was home made .... what was is used for ... the year and the value thanks my friends
Great old work bench. I am not an expert, but this does not look manufactured to me.
As you pointed out, the legs are cast. They look like the only parts that were manufactured other than the drawer handles. Anything modern would have been bolted or welded together. I see a number of holes drilled into the legs that aren't used for anything. They may have come from a piece of equipment that was no longer needed. The metal covering the top many have been original, but it is really common to cover an old wood bench top with sheet metal in order to extend it's life. The drawer handles have slotted screw heads instead of Philips head. Just a WAG, but I would say 50s.
We are not allowed to give values but there is an appraisal value to hit at the top on the black bar. I would say a local auction may take it on, but values for antiques mainly have slipped in value to half from 2007-21 I see from all the antique shows, especially in furniture.
I too would guess "home made" vs. "manufactured", even if the 'home' was actually somebody's 'shop' someplace instead. And OH YES that sucker just LOOKS like it is deceptively heavy...? <lol> One way or the other it's a great piece, whether for continued use as a workbench or maybe even reborn as a dining table, if you might have the same kind of odd sensibilities for such things that I do...???
