CW member crewnail showed his railroad related coal shovel the other day and it got me thinking a couple days later when I went to my own toolshed looking for a shovel and found this. Lord only knows where I got it except that I'm reasonably certain I didn't specifically *pay* for it anywhere, it must have been some sorta castoff from someplace along the way...I, like crewnail, tend to glom onto good old tools when given the opportunity...? :-)
With a second glance (finally!) however, this shovel just might be a little more 'something' than I'd realized. It IS seemingly a rather old (if not antique?) tool especially in the way that its handle is crafted and (hand) riveted to its various metal bits and the blade -- perhaps the entire thing is actually hand wrought/made.
Though it doesn't have any traditional maker's mark, the initials C L & X are stamped onto the tang above the blade. Dunno what that means, does anybody else have a guess? I'm not under the impression this is RxR related necessarily, but it *could* be I suppose?
Meanwhiles, I'd expect this one will be coming out of the tool shed to more suitable "display" before too long...gotta find it a spot...
<LOL>
