This is a set of different sized mats to protect tabletops and counters from hot serving dishes, I think. (and I also think there's a better word for that, but can't recall it now... <groan>) They are made of a thickish cardboard like material with fronts featuring depictions of famous DC landmarks in relief with a silvery colored (foil?) finish, their backsides are a smaller separate layer with a simple plain pattern. They measure 7" x 10", 6" x 8", & 6" x 6", all with angled corners.
Almost unnoticed before this showing, the largest one bears tiny print under the U. S. Capitol building and Eagle that reads: "(c) 1940 CHAS. A. BREWER & SONS CHICAGO".
