I originally thought this was a Marine corps machete but learned it is actually from the United States Medical Corps. Also referred to as a Bolo knife. This one was made by the Village Blacksmith although other companies produced similar versions. I would imagine to help with the war effort. It is a very hefty and heavy knife, an awesome piece of military history.
