This slender brooch is 2 inches (5 cm) long and 0.6 inches (1.5 cm) at its widest.
According to Global Gemology's jeweller database, the 'HSB' stamp (picture #3) stands for Harry S. Bick, a jeweller in NYC from 1947 who worked in both gold and sterling silver. Therefore, this brooch can't be older than that. From its style, I think it dates to the early end of his production period.
A lot of HSB's jewellery features flowers or plants. However, occasionally you find more abstract pieces, such as this vaguely Art Deco brooch with its two tiny aqua rhinestones and slightly "gimlet" appearance. I liked the sleek lines and the simplicity of the two small stones.
Highly unusual pin and almost looks like a pair of spectacles, quite futuristic design !~
Thanks for the comment, Phil! Yes, it is futuristic, although it also reminds me vaguely of the elaborate grill you might find on some classic antique car. Unusual vibe for a (nominally) rhinestone piece.
MsCrystalShip, thank you for your kind comment!
And I think it may be rare, too, although I would love to learn of any similar pieces - both to have more context for this one, and to admire for their own sake :)
It's beautiful! Strikingly modern design, with that Art Deco vibe.
Andreamw, thank you for the sweet words and for the love!
