This is a 1/6th plate tintype from CA 1864 of a young boy, that was recently found in rural
Maryland. What is the object that he is holding? Something for school?
Hard images like this have an appeal to me, even if they have no direct connection
to the Civil War.
GREAT ambrotype!!
Looks to be some sort of folk art painting with a man playing the banjo.
Very interesting image with some value.
Thanks for sharing this unusual image.

i've seen that toy before. i think it's a paper toy and you can make the figures dance by pulling on tabs on the bottom.
Thank you both!
It is a tintype, and in the case, of course, it really dates back.
Sorry-- the emulsion made me think ambrotype. I need to pay more attention to the description!

Scott,
No problem.
I have collected CW hard images since 1982, and sometimes I am still mistaken
about whether an image is a tintype or an ambrotype until I remove it from it's case!
Unfortunately I was very ill in 2002, and my Dr. told us I would likely soon
be dead, or brain dead, and so I sold off most of my better images. But when
I realized that I was going to live, I began to collect again.
