Here is a 4 3-4"H x 9"W blue glass horse from 1968, the 'horse laying down' made by the LE Smith Glass Co of Mt Pleasant PA in just four colors (blue, amber, green & red-amberina). As pictured and described in books Glass Animals by Spencer and Glass Animals & Figurines by Coe
*This 700th post is dedicated to my late Uncle Tony, a horse lover and racing fan. When my husband & I finally obtained our long awaited covid vaccines, the site chosen for us was Belmont Park racetrack, famous for being the 3rd leg in the Triple Crown series, and a venue beloved by my uncle
Such a stunning color on this glass horse!!!! I never knew that L.E. Smith made beautiful pieces like this. Leave it to our Newfld to find the very best!!
I especially love the mane in the second pic, your menagerie has become synonymous with you in your famed collection on CW !~
Very nice, calm restful pose he's in. You rarely see a horse sitting, peacefully waiting like he is, usually their up and in a very regal or active pose. He's beautiful by the way, and really reminds me of a foal. It's sweet this is dedicated to your uncle, and a very appropriate horsey-themed piece and as for Covid-19 good luck with your vaccine rollout, I have hope things will greatly improve after it! :)
Jenni,
How very perfect this is!! Here in Kentucky, it's Oaks Day at Churchill Downs where the fillies Run for the Lilies . Tomorrow is the Kentucky Derby when the boys Run for the Roses!
Wow! the color! the form! the brilliance! this is my kind of hoss!
Again I am entranced by the colour. So many of these American glass pieces have these awesome colours!
Sincere thanks to everyone for the love

Thank you FreshAir for your awesome compliments they are humbly appreciated! I think this is a very fine Smith piece also, it's quite heavy & surprisingly hollowed inside which gives off those strange body swirls in the pix, I kept thinking they were out of focus but that's how they are. I have been trying to get this horse for some time & was overjoyed to find it in the lovely blue
Aw Phil I'm blushing, what sweet things you say thank you soo much my friend. The mane here is a highlight of the horse design, it gives it a realism and looks to have been modeled on a real one. And I adore my menagerie the more the merrier :)
Lauren you have such a great eye, horses rarely lay down except when old, ill or in foal, and that is a very astute observation - isn't it weird that they sleep standing up, you would think they would like to give those skinny legs a break holding up that huge body! He does have a very calm and serene look. Yes it was very coincidental our getting the covid shots at my uncle's favorite racetrack, it brought back alot of nice memories. Oh I hope we are on the way to great improvements in our lives, things here are relaxing a bit and hopefully soon we will get back to normal, fantastic comment thank you so much
Thank you Scott for your marvelous comment, I did not realize that this is Kentucky Derby weekend! I watched the race and it was very exciting, a nice 7th win for trainer Mr Baffert, he was so surprised. NY will be hosting the Belmont Stakes pretty soon, wonder if this horse can race for the triple crown he sure is a fast one
Thank you ho2 for your awesome praise, I am delighted my horsey hit all the marks for you! He is one of my larger glass horses and I agree quite impressive, it is always so much more of a delight to see the lovely lines of a horse in a bigger size, they are beautiful sleek animals
Karen this is one of those pretty blues, it is amazing what different hues were used for glass animals - this medium shade is very similar to Viking's 'bluenique' color, also from the 1960s. Thank you my friend for your always fabulous comment & observ
Great addition to your collection!
Cokeman & MrsT, I'm very grateful to you both for the thoughtful love & kind consideration :)
MrsT thank you for your wonderful comment, this blue horse holds a special place in my collection and was truly a lucky find
Thank you BB2 for the always kind love and support, it's so nice of you & I'm very glad you liked this blue glass horse
Really glad you liked this Smith blue glass horse Daisy, it was a rare vintage find for me & very special, thank you for the thoughtful love
it's a great figurine, Jenni... especially with the sentimental value in re: to your Uncle! and being assigned to receive your shots at Belmont, could be a a sign that he is looking out for you!!
U ever sleep.? lol how cool would it be for animals to be colors like this...wow...later
Thanks Ted & LazyBoy for the loves and super comments!
Yes Ted, getting our shots at Belmont Park was surreal, it's a beautiful track & I kept looking at the famous racehorse pix and trophies as well as the horses exercising in the paddock, couldn't help but think of my dear uncle & how he would've laughed at the irony (he had a great sense of humor), and I did think he had something to do with the 'divine intervention' cause it took us forever to get a vaccine appt. Thanks for the kind words :)
Lol LazyBoy you have found me out - a restless sleeper, more of a NY night owl, one of my best CW friends from Canada knew me as 'Jenni the insomniac!' Yep this blue glass horse has a really nice color and if horses were blue I'd still love 'em :) Thanks for noticing & the fun comment
lol I guess its better then Jenni the zombie..lol ya 3 or 4 hours do me fine ..sometime less ..I guess it will just be a matter of time before we can just pick a color on everything once they master our gens...lol later time for toast ... '-)
Absolutely true LazyBoy, though my husband (always the comic) has been known to say "go haunt the house"!! Usually he sleeps when I'm up & vice versa, perhaps secrets to a happy marriage :)
With sincere thanks for the love
