Not sure when it was made but looks old, has a little warp but other than that in fairly decent condition. I was able to find a couple that sold in the hundreds of dollars, which is great since I only paid $1 for it. Just something to add to the collection that I never thought about collecting.
Mine is a Japanese Soroban and yours is a Chinese Suanpan. The Chinese suanpan has 7 beads vs Japanese soroban has only 5 beads. Here's my post for more info...

Thanks, I already know more about it then I did before. Half of the fun of collecting is the research and learning about history of the finds. I have bad luck trying to use Google for information, all they want to do is sell me something, usually not even related to my key words.
I agree..for me the story is as valuable and important as the items.
Always wish they could tell their story, so many things and no one still alive to explain their uses, how well they worked, etc. Like some of the cast iron cookware in my collection, something used to cook meals 120 plus years ago and can still be used today the same as it was way back then.
