Hans Stangl (1888-1963) designed 20 odd figures for Rosenthal in the mid 1950’s. He was a sculptor in bronze and according to the Rosenthal site was the deputy director of the Deutsche Akademie in Rome in the war years from 1938 to 1943. This vase is nicknamed Mitra or Mitre. The exact year of production I still do not know but suspect it to be mid Fifties. I walked into my favourite oppie yesterday and it was thee on a shelf in all of its pinkness and it screamed at me. I’ve enjoyed playing around with it and putting it up against some of my other Rosenthal pieces. Some of his other pieces can be seen here on CW too .... check out austruhungaro’s Madonnas !!!!
H : 6 inches (15cm)
W : 4 1/2 inches (11.5 cm)
haven't seen a Stangl in a few years, very nice.

Love the simple lines ! a beauty
Possibly from the CaptainObvious department -- the Mitra/Mitre name probably comes from its very similar shape to the hats of the same name worn by priests and clerics...?
