I found this at a garage sale not having any idea what it is exactly. For two dollars I thought it was worth adding to the collection and give me something to research and learn. Anyone who may know what it is please comment. It has been repaired on the bottom, it has heavy handle and rivets. The can is tin but the lid is aluminum with a wood knob and a catch inside the lid. Not positive the lid is original to the can but it is a perfect fit.

I’m thinking along the line of some kind of ‘home brewing’ of alcoholic beverages in small quantities ....missing the cooling coil of tubing to capture the alcohol. And, of course, I could be totally wrong but that profile with the ‘nipple’ protrusion looks like a miniature still to me.

I don’t see the ‘catch inside the lid’....could you show that, please?

It's in the last picture, in the center, like something was suspended from it. I thought steamer or still but can't say for sure one way or another.

Hmmm....if you turn the wooden knob of the lid, does that turn that thing on inside of the lid?
If so, maybe some kind of stirring implement was attachable to it so the contents of the pot could be stirred without removing the lid.

When I first saw it, 2 thoughts came to mind.

1)reminded me of when I was a kid. We had items in our camper trailer similar to this.

2)I thought milk or cream jug...AND if you look, that lid does not match. It's totally a different color and just happens to fit..

Milk or cream jug, made after the 1940's top is not original.

Yeah, I'm going with the milk/cream bucket. Looking at other examples I believe that is exactly what it is, minus the lid. Unless the lid is an accessory for warming or something else it is definitely not original. Thanks for your comments.
