This 2 1-4"L goldtone horned owl brooch has gleaming yellow & green glass stones, with mini rhinestone accents and pastel enamel. Signed ART ca 1955-1960. The co was founded in NYC by Arthur Pepper in the late 1940s
I love your little owl!!
Lovely owl and really lovely little(or really big?! :P) stone in the middle, it's like a really lovely light peridot or emerald and along with the eyes, which have that slightly eerie staring sort of look like owls do! But, are the stones some kind of glass or are they real gemstones? I'm really curious as to what they are now- they look so clear and smooth
I love Art jewelry. I think the company was very creative. This is an excellent example of that. cute, colorful, a bit of whimsy.

Scott thank you for your always great praise, I'm so thrilled that you liked this colorful owl
Thank you Lauren for your fabulous comment, yes the eyes & tummy of this owl are glass, however the company ART made other variations of this owl with lucite and in different colors. The eyes definitely do capture the owl's stare allright! I will tell you it was very hard to photograph the bright glass stones without shadowing them with my tablet camera, they have no flaws & any spots you see are my pic angles
Maureen thank you very, very much for your wonderful kind comment & praise for ART jewelry, I have a few of their pieces and as you say, have always found them to be delightfully creative and original. This owl is quite whimsical & the glass stones make him very unusual
Thanks so much FreshAir for your super compliments, yes the eyes have it here, very bright like the real bird's :) As always very grateful for your kind input
Mani thank you for the lovely compliment, I am truly glad you enjoyed this owl, he is positively glowing at the praise!
Very grateful for the love

Would this be called a jelly belly? I am never sure but the green stone is a lovely colour and shape and the eyes are fantastic. But it's the feet for me - just look at them!!!!
Absolutely right Karen they call any round tummy stone a jelly belly, particularly if it's shiny and liquid looking. I think the eyes are great too like a staring owl's, and lol those feet look like a funny arrow, so cool! Super observant comment my friend & thanx too for the love, you're the best :)
Thank you cheapstuff2 for the love, it's very kind of you & I'm so glad you liked this ART owl
Many thanks NaVi8274 for the very kind loves for this owl & my other posts today, I will get to appreciating each individually later when I have more time.
To my friend K, I think you now see what I mean lol :)
Yes I know Mary, thank you for the comment. The original jelly bellies were indeed by Coro & Trifari, but since then the term is also applied to similar looking costume pieces, besides melaniej"s Winking Napier cat & plein air painters Mazer brooch which you can see here on CW in the search box, this ART owl is also called a jelly belly in most every description online (please google ART jelly belly brooch images, and you will see what I mean). Meaning no disrespect to Coro or Trifari, I just stated the modern fact for my own brooch, and only in the comments I did not title this piece a 'jelly belly' though many other collectors would
Love the owls!
Thanks clockerman, I love owls too they are so mysterious and interesting! Appreciate the fabulous comment and the love you're very kind :)
