Purchased this at the upscale resale shop called the clubhouse on forest park expressway back in 2010 for 35$. It was a no brainer as i found the composition to be interesting enough for me to appreciate it and the potential that it may be a significant work was worth the price of admission.
It has been a gem in my collection for all these years. Last year through the magic of reverse image search available through google images. It returned the results of The Artist's Uncle 1866 by Paul Cezanne
As you can see Cezanne utilized his uncle (Antoine Dominique Sauveur Aubert) on many different sittings.

This canvas has a very small potential of being by an artist who painted side by side of the same sitting. More than likely it is a ‘second’ or an ‘after’. In which the artist is emulating a certain style and subject matter either in homage or in effort to learn from the experience. The artist, whoever it may be, did a fantastic job of conveying the immediacy of being in the moment during a sitting. Brush stroke appear fluid and and delivered with confidence.

I don’t believe this any attempt at being a forgery as there are significant differences in comparing this canvas with the original composition. The original has qualities of pallete knife delivery of paint whereas this take does not. See the significant pallete knife caused edges on the face of the original.

I dont know how much this would appraise for but to be honest am not interested in selling this. it has been and will continue to be a gem in my lifelong art collection.

Recently found out that Cezanne and Van Gogh were in the same vicinity of each other.
To think that rather than be a ‘second’ or ‘after’ that this may be a van gogh from the very same sitting of cezanne’s uncle!!

Dreams of holographic reality where the too good to be true filter is glitching…..
