    Here are two opal ware glass dresser boxes from the CF Monroe Co of Meriden CT ca 1890-1916. These covered and hinged approx 3 1-2" x 3 1-2" opal glass boxes are described as follows:
    Wavecrest white glass box with blue trim, raised rococo swirls and cherub design, faintly marked Wavecrest on bottom;
    Nakara blue box with two cherubs in cameo on lid and acid finish blue glass, marked Nakara on bottom.
    These dresser boxes are reminders of my mother, who collected them among other cherub themed pieces, and whose birthday would have been this weekend

      Very nice ones. I wonder if they are in the books bedroom and 'Bathroom Glassware of the Twenties' ? I always loved those books.

      Thank you Scott for the truly kind compliments, this is a different sort of glass than my usual animals & I'm so glad you liked them

      Yes MrsT, they do enhance the dresser with a bit of nostalgic glam, I have a few of these Monroe glass boxes now and they look great side by side. Thank you for your lovely comment

      Karen for a change here is something from me that is really antique & very old, this pair held up really well except they're missing the top & bottom satin linings they originally had as are most since they're 100+ yrs old (!). They do bring back special memories of my mother, she did not collect many things but really loved these boxes esp the cherub topped ones. Fabulous comment thank you so much :)

      Thank you sklo42 for the super praise, I agree these were very well made and I actually have a couple books about them which of course since moving I can't find. Seems Monroe had three lines of these vanity boxes, the most popular was Wavecrest, then Nakara which had little beading dots in the design and colored glass, and lastly Kelva which was more ornate & also colored glass. Because of their age & rarity it is hard to find these boxes in good condition

      Phil it is very possible that these opal glass boxes were in that book about '20s bathroom glassware, although the co. stopped production in 1916 these were popular then & probably still being sold. Makes me wonder if my grandmother (she married in 1921) had them first before my mother, it could well be! Thank you for your always wonderful comment & insight
