Hello everyone!!
Another of my many cast iron boot scrapers. This Dachshund has a very primitive appearance and is much different than the boot scrapers we typically see. It has an arched back and a straight tail, instead of the ring tail that we usually see on Dachshund boot scrapers. This one is also a solid one piece design, instead of a two piece. In researching the age of this one, I've seen reports of this design being anywhere from the late 1800's to 1930's. So, I'm still not truly sure of it's age. Let's just say the early 1900's. It's the longest and heaviest of my boot scrapers and measures 24 1/4" long, 7 1/2" tall and 5 1/2" at the widest point. It weighs well over 30lbs. The scraper has been worn down from years of use and exposure to the elements. But, other than that, it's still in pretty good condition. It came to me very rusted, so I cleaned it thoroughly and repainted it.
Thanks very much for stopping by for a look!!

Interesting design and in fabulous condition!!! When I was young my family had two weiner dogs, they are protective and loyal. Great piece!!
Love this one too!
FreshAir is correct the Dachshund is loyal to a fault. They do have a quiet side to them, gentle and loving....until "watch out".
Scott, you have a wonderful, fun filled collection of cast iron (& other) items that amazing me, I love cast iron - anything - I only cook with cast iron pot and skillets and have several wall hooks, trinkets and other oddity's, But nothing compares to your collection, you take the top prize.
It is always so nice to see something posted by you, and let's not forget the gracious replies you are known for.
Thank you for your posts and your shared knowledge.

FreshAir,
Thanks!! This is a very interesting boot scraper design. We had 4 Dachshunds over the past 29 years. All smooth coat males except our newest Dachshund which is a longhair chocolate/tan female. They've all been loyal til the end.
Lori,
Thank you, thank you thank you!!!! Such a grand compliment to receive. I love my world of cast iron creatures. But, I also love my live ones as well. Our little girl Dachshund, Carly, is a 3 year old chocolate/tan longhair. She's our 4th Dachshund in 29 years and our first female. We've had her since she was 9 weeks old. Dachshunds are loyal and the best lap dog to own, in my opinion. In fact, Carly's lying in my lap at this very moment. She's a Daddy's girl for certain:) I just added a picture of her. Thanks again Lori!!
Great one ! This looks like you would not even have to bolt it down as the weight must make it stay where it is, very cool !~

Phil,
Thanks very much!! You definitely wouldn't need to bolt this fellow down. He's pretty heavy for his size.

Hi Eileen!!
Yep, he's a bit over 2' and quite heavy!! My real life Dachshund, Carly, only weighs about 12lbs.
