This vase is 9.5" high x 6.5" widest diameter and weighs a hair over 6 lbs. It has a Sanyu label near the top which is upside down. The bottom of the vase is ground flat and polished. I have seen three similar vases in this color combination, including this one.
This vase was bought as a gift by a man for his wife ca 1980, both have since passed and their son sold it to me. I have wanted one of these for some time but they are usually pretty expensive and not common in the U.S. The price and condition were right so I finally got one. It was on an online auction site for a very short time when one of my saved searches alerted me to it. There is minor scratching to bottom, but otherwise it seems to be in mint condition, and probably has been sitting in the same spot for the past 40 years. I have noticed a couple of small bubbles in the glass.
I have been having allergy issues so been offline for a few days and may be a bit slow to respond to comments. The drugs I have to take are almost as bad as the allergies, so I put off taking them as long as possible.
Beautiful and unique vase! Sure hope your allergies clear up and you feel better soon!!!
All the best from me too and it is great to see a stickered example of Sanyu.
Thanks for your comment, jscott0363! It is an oddball vase. Thanks for your good wishes. I didn't get seasonal allergies until I was in my 30s but have struggled since. At least now I don't have to try to work when I am afflicted!
Thank for your comment and good wishes, Kevin. I've been trying to stick with labeled examples of Japanese art glass or studio work by specific artists, so was happy to find this vase.

Thanks PhilDMorris and dav2no1!
Wow Kevin, well found. These big Sanyu vases are often highly priced and expensive to ship because, as you know, they are very heavy. Of course I love the sticker :)
This red and yellow is such an interesting decor. Sanyu didn't often venture into such strong colours together so I don't think these would be at all common. Typical OTT working of the clear case though! Imagine having this hanging on the end of a punty , rotating it and working it. Unreal.
Thanks for the comments, Karen. Yeah, I was surprised to find this one for $40. The shipping was high, I thought, until the seller spent it on priority mail and it was here in two days. I had no idea what could be in the box on my front porch when I saw it. I wasn't expecting it to arrive for several days.
Yes it is heavy and asymmetrical and must have been a bear to manipulate on the punty.
The odd colors are why I remember every one I have ever seen! One in the U.K. has been on ebay for a couple of years at around $300, including shipping, minus tax. The other one sold for over $200 plus shipping. I don't remember the precise sale price. More than I was willing to pay, for sure.
Thanks for checking out my vase SkyPilot!
Thanks for loving my lumpy vase clockerman and Vynil33rpm!
Thanks for your comment, Eileen! To tell the truth, I never thought that I would have one of these vases in my collection as they do go for crazy amounts. I am very happy and fortunate to have found one I could afford. Well, I could afford one going at market value, but I am just too stingy to spend that much!
I bought another piece of Vellano jewelry, a fan brooch, which I will post. It is much nicer than expected. Availability of that jewelry on online auction sites has pretty much dried up. Wish I had spotted them sooner as a couple of the brooches are really cool, the bees and other flying insects....
CW is a great community of collectors. I was happy to find it.
Gorgeous color combo, lovely vase Kevin
Thanks, Jenni! I think the color choices are really interesting and work surprisingly well together. Wouldn't have been my choice!
Very unusual but very cool!
Thanks for your comment vintagelamp. I consider it to be one of my mutant glass vases.
