I bought this ring because it’s very distinctive and I loved it on first sight. It was sold from a seller who was selling a lot of his jewellery. I’ve never heard of Hans Rudi Hofer, I know he is from Germany nothing else, I’ve looked online but found nothing really of interest about him.
The ring was made circa 1930, made of silver and gold leaves with a large peridot and tiny rose cut diamonds, to me it screams Art and Crafts. Under the leaves and diamonds is a black surface at first I thought it was enamel, now I’m thinking it’s oxidised silver.
If anybody has any information regarding Hans Rudi Hofer, I would be really interested to know more about him
Many thanks for looking

Third link is to a mcm silver bracelet or cuff not sure which.
Hi Gillian, thanks for your links, I did buy this ring from John several years ago. I have bought many other pieces from him and he’s a great person to buy jewellery from.
Way cool !!!
Oh Jean - I thought as much, you're such a savvy buyer! Some really different jewelry, your ring is amazing. I kinda hoped Mr. Kelly would have the information you were looking for.

Elegant ring! The mixed metals and peridot are just so gorgeous.
Hi Jean, pretty ring and very "Arts & Crafts". Here is a link to some bio info from several Hofer pieces that came on the market at Dreweatts back in 2012:
https://www.lotsearch.net/lot/an-abalone-shell-set-ring-by-hans-rudi-hofer-stamped-800-and-with-h-h-42349060
"This and the following fourteen lots are an offering of jewellery by the German jeweller Hans Rudi Hofer. Submitted by the widow of Hofer's nephew. This was the stock removed from his Berlin workshop shortly after Hofer passed away. The story of Hofer is somewhat sketchy but it is known that he was a German Jew, interred by the Nazis but survived the ordeal. He is thought to have died circa 1970. No further information is known at present. His jewellery shows a distinct modernist slant, with some pieces of quite robust design. Predominantly working in silver of an .800 standard; he did, however, produce some gold jewels".
I suspect he will be the same person mentioned on following link as Hans-Rudi Hofer born 1911 who was the son of famous German artist Karl Hofer and Mathilde Scheinberger (marriage 1903).

Thank you rhineisfine, I really appreciate your comment.
Hi Paul, thank you for your links they are very interesting. I didn’t know anything of his back ground, it must have been very tough for him being a German Jew in Nazi Germany. I see he survived and the camps, I wonder if he stayed in Germany.
