      By the way the face has been touched up by one of the past owners (the eyes and ears were repainted a brighter white.)

      These type of statues, figures were used during the underground railroad by the north signifying to the slaves they could seek food, shelter etc while on their hard journey. They were usually put in a place of significance on their property or homestead. Although a common belief, these gents have nothing to do with racisim.
