This Viking Glass squirrel is 4.5" long x 3.5" high x 1.5" wide and weighs 11.3 ounces. It has a very nice example of the Viking label. I would have bet money that Newfld would have already posted one of these, but not! I was stunned! I have never seen one of these before, so maybe it is not too common? Using artificial light and think I can do better on the first image in sunlight, so will try again when it is sunny.

I had to go out today as I am out of bird seed cakes and pretty sure my regular woodpecker friend doesn't know that anything else is food, so caffeinated myself and off I went. I was bargaining with myself about how many thrift shops I would go to, there are three in the loop to the store, but I found three pretty cool, inexpensive items at the first one, so called it a day and came straight home afterwards. Glad I did so as I paid for my excursion with allergy related fatigue. Not sure why that type of activity gets to me as I walk 3 miles every evening....

Great little glass squirrel!! There was a time that I could walk 3 miles in an evening, but I've been behind a desk far too long and I've gotten out of shape. Hopefully, when I retire, in a couple years from now, I'll get back on track again:)

Thanks for the comment, jscott0363! Hang in there, retirement has been the best 3 years of my life. Well worth the sacrifices I made to get here. Now I just need to stay fit and healthy as long as possible to squeeze all of the goodie out of it. I've always stayed in shape, always got up two and a half hours before I had to be at work to do weight bearing and flexibility exercises in the morning and walking or hiking after work. Easier to stay in shape than to get in shape!

Thanks, Jenni! In researching this, I also found one similar example that is tailless, perhaps a groundhog, beaver or chipmunk. All of the examples I found of the one in this post were frosted, not clear. Also found a couple of other Viking squirrels I have not seen before.

Thanks for your comment, Eileen! I have been defeated by numerous squirrels over the years, they have eventually compromised every bird feeder I have owned. Suddenly, our local red and fox squirrels have been joined by Eastern grey squirrels. I had never seen them here before until late winter and I have been in my house for 22 years.

Actually, I am not a morning person, unless you mean going to sleep by then! When I worked, I was an early riser because of my job, the day an endless series of meetings and work and research tasks, very scheduled. Once I retired three years and four months ago, but who is counting, I turned off my alarm clock. I go to sleep when I feel sleepy and get up when I feel rested and only have to be some place at a certain time three or four times a year. I found that I am really a night owl. I started staying up later and later, eventually going to sleep between 1 and 3 am. Now I try to get in bed around 1 am, so that I can go hiking while everyone else is working and I don't have to deal with traffic. The fact that I walk a lot at night is a sign that I often don't make my 1 am curfew...

Thanks for loving my Viking squirrel Alfie21, Eileen, PhilDMorris, Kevin, FreshAir, dav2no1, Jenni, fortapache, Thomas and jscott0363!

Thanks for your comment vintagelamp! It was in a pile of assorted glass bits on the top shelf at a thrift shop I don't go to much anymore. I didn't know what it was when I reached up and pulled it out of the pile. I was pleasantly surprised.

Thanks for loving my Viking squirrel vintagelamp, blunderbuss and mikelv85!
