1930s Bottle and Jar Openers
Found these yesterday. The can opener has no marking other than, "tool steel tempered". So ...as the seller stated.....doubles as a weapon..ha ha.
The other is an S and W anchor opener. Very interesting, see below to find out more about these 2 companies.
ANCHOR OPENER
Anchor Cap & Closure Corp., Long Island, New York (1913-1928) Anchor Cap & Closure incorporated in 1913 with a factory at Long Island, New York and another at Toronto, Canada. The firm made a variety of caps and closures for food containers. A few mergers later, they became Anchor Cap Corp., Long Island, New York (1928-1937).
WHAT FAMOUS COMPANY EMERGES?
"The Hocking Glass Company was founded in 1905 by Isaac Jacob (Ike) Collins in Lancaster, Ohio, and named after the Hocking River. That company merged with the Anchor Cap and Closure Corporation in 1937. ... In 1987, the Newell Company acquired Anchor Hocking Corporation."
S and W
No, no...not Smith & Wesson! Founded in 1896 Three grocery wholesalers, Samuel Sussman, Gustav Wormser, and Samuel Wormser, founded S&W in San Francisco, a city that was just beginning to bloom near Northern California’s luscious valleys and fertile orchards.
In late 2007, S&W Fine Foods International was acquired by Del Monte Pacific Limited (DMPL).
