    Hello everyone,
A couple of recent finds for me are these two antique cast iron match holders. They're labeled in the Collectible Match Holders book as "Lady's Boot With Scalloped Top And Buttons On The Side". I've seen a lot of these, but this pair are the first I've seen with the faux marble base. There are also many similar to this without the striker plate. These are both equipped with the striker plates. Though there is a bit of paint loss on each, they're still in fantastic condition. These are from the early 1900's. They each measure 5 1/4" tall, 4 1/2" long and 3" wide.

Thank you all very much for stopping in for a look!!
    Scott

hermosísimas.... so beatiful.... you know some of thes type of pieces were done for the smoking tables in places only for men

      kivatinitz,
Thanks very much!! You are correct about the smoking tables for men. We actually took a tour of the Biltmore Estate, a few years back, and there is a smoking room in that mansion where the men would retire to after dinner to smoke and play billiards.

Yeah, these were probably a little risque when they were made.

      kwqd,
Thanks!! I really never thought about it, but now that you mention it, I guess these would have been a little risque.

      Eileen,
You're right about that. Though the match holders in kitchens were typically wall mounted. The table top match holders were typically reserved for parlors and smoking rooms. As for cigars, I've never cared for the smell of cigars. Some pipe tobacco smells great, but not cigars. It seems like anytime I get together with my friends, they always want to offer cigars to everyone. I'm not much of a drinker or a smoker of cigars either.

They are lovely, and at least you have a pair, that way "these boots are made for walking" when they get tired of all that smoke in the air!
