I got these at a Sherlock Holmes collector's estate sale. I know that Honoria Marsh was an artist who illustrated a book called "Shades of Jane Austen." There was similar types of artwork in that book. I am trying to figure out exactly how these images were used. In the Sherlock Holmes image written faintly at the top: "It's a very clear case for Whiteheads, Watson."
The Irene Adler image states at the bottom: To Sherlock Holmes she was always the (underlined) woman. Also: Miss Christine Foyle as Irene Adler for "Shades Of Sherlock Holmes." Also added: From sketch made at Beeleigh Abbey, Essex September 1980." At the top left it states: "On the 20th of March 1888." on the top right: "Suggestion only."
Most of the artwork that I see on Ebay are signed prints. The ones have notations in pencil and no titles at the bottom like the ones I see on Ebay. Are these the drafts prior to being included in a publication?
