When i was back east visiting my family, i stopped in at one of my favorite antique stores and scored this painting for just a few bucks. It's not framed, but looks great just as it is hanging in our river camp. The photos came out really bad - with too much reflection. It's very dirty and could use a clean, but it kind of looks good the way it is up on the wall. I think the tree is an American Elm - which disappeared when my father was young [thanks to the Dutch Elm Disease].
Could it be that this painting used to be bigger. They took off a piece of the canvas and shortened the stretcher. Still a charming piece.
very possible, although i do like the square format.
