Sometimes you get lucky...this was a super "sleeper" found on eBay AU two weeks ago. It arrived a week overdue from the tracking date, & I was getting a bit nervous...but, it arrived safely today & it made me SO happy.
It was listed as simply an amethyst glass vase with flowers. But it reminded me of some glass I'd seen on CW...in particular in Michelle's immaculately curated collection. After spotting it, I researched extensively, & then waited on tenterhooks for the auction to end. There was one other bidder, but I won with a reasonable bid.
This is an example of Art Nouveau glass by Legras Montjoye Saint Denis, in the Violettine colour - the shape is called "Olga", & the raised enamel floral decoration is called "Tokyo Chrysanthemum".
It is made from clear glass shading to light purple, with an incurved top rim reminiscent of a rose bowl. It measures 15.5 cm tall, 4.5 cm across the base, & 4 cm across the gilded top rim. There is a very small etched number 34 on the base.
Great vase!Good for you,Marin :)
I always really like these. The thickness of the enamel holds a special appeal for me. My favourite is the Violettine with anemone. I hope one will come my way eventually...
Many thanks, Ivonne!
Thanks also, Wow22, & I hope you can find one of your own soon!
lovely so beautiful
Thanks so much, kivatinitz!
Love it! Really love the third photo taken outside!
Many thanks, vintagelamp!
It's a quiet (& cold) time in my garden at the moment, being the winter solstice today, but I hope to do more outdoors shots as it comes back to life over the next few months. So much art glass is inspired by natural forms so it's nice to give it a botanical backdrop...
