Some trunks along the way stand out…
My fellow trunk enthusiasts will notice the unique elements on this trunk that show a high degree of skill and design by this maker. Nicely leather trimmed, it has this wonderful brass edging, I’ve not seen before, — also those back hinges double as stays, which we’ve seen on Martin Maier trunks… why all makers didn’t go this route is a mystery to me. This slightly raised top looks like an early use of plywood… to great affect. The canvas was stripped, but the banding around the trunk is wrapped in canvas prior to assembly… haven’t seen that done before!! Just a beautiful trunk…
This Hector Lamontage & company trunk is wonderful. Thanks for posting a fine example of one of Canada's major trunk makers.
