These pliers are about 7.5" long and a bit under 2" wide. The jaws have hatched gripping surface. They are marked "Dodia ST. STEE(L?)". The appear to be very heavily chrome plated as there is no wear, oxidation or damage to the finish. I have no idea where these were made, what they were meant to be used for or how old they are. They were a thrift shop find for under a dollar from a few years ago and such obviously good quality that I could not pass them by. Can anyone tell me anything about them?

I wouldn't have been able to pass 'em by either, Kevin though I also don't know what they really are? ;-) With the heavy chrome plating I could wonder if they had a medical or foodservice purpose? (if they were bigger I'd guess ice plant pliers, but they're not...?)

Thanks for your comments, AnythingObscure! Oh the hours I have spent with these clutched in my hand staring at them screaming, "What are you?!". OK, maybe not so dramatic, but I have puzzled over them more than once. I have tried using them for various tasks and they have performed rather poorly for everything I have tried using them for. They must be a very specialized tool.

I have a pair by a different mfg. mine were commonly called nippers or nibblers. After you cut glass or tile and it doesn't snap off clean you use these to nibble away the jagged edge to the cut line. The jaws gripping surface stop them from slipping or sliding. I've had mine for years. You should be able to find them searching on either of the above names or looking in an old Sears catalog. I think I got mine from Sears but not branded Craftsman.
