I visited some charity shops today and in one found this intriguing little item. It's a small black hand carved with a strange symbol that seems rather familiar(I kinda fell like I've seen it somewhere before....)
I personally believe it to be Indian and made from black soapstone due to it's weight and really sleek, coolness. As for the symbol in it's palm it reminds me a little bit of some similar things used in Buddhism? I don't know if I'm correct in thinking this? Is it a protective symbol? What else could this little black hand refer to? Is it a totem? An amulet?
Really puzzled and intrigued by this hand...
Cost- €3 ($3.57/£2.57)
Very intriguing & cool little black hand, it is so well formed and I like the symbols (a bird, a moon perhaps). If black hand sounds familiar to you, it may remind you of the early Italian crime organization the black hand aka manonero. Great find Lauren!
Haha! Yes Newfld, I was thinking of that organization too- If I'm not mistaken were they not behind or somehow entangled with the assignation of Archduke Franz Ferdinand? And yes, I do see the moon and maybe even a little star siymbol on it also- thank you!
