This iron tiger okimono by Saegusa Sotaro is 10.5" long x 4" high x 2.5" wide and weighs 2 lbs 13 ounces. It has the Saegusa studio mark and came with the original cardboard presentation box, plastic plinth and wood signature plaque. I am not sure if this piece was by Saegusa Sotaro, himself, by a member of his studio or the work of both. Information about how his studio functioned is pretty much nonexistent. I do know that his studio continued, and maybe continues, after his death to produce okimono which he designed.

At any rate, I have been keeping my eye open for an example of this tiger, but they can be pretty expensive. I finally found this one from a seller in Japan for a reasonable price. It has a couple of small casting flaws on its back which have gotten a bit of debris in them. I going to take my time in assessing the best way to clean it up. This piece is used and has been displayed, but shows little wear and no damage. This has been in transit for awhile and just arrived an hour or so ago.

Very cool piece, probably art deco brutalist among other influences, and just love the green colour !~

Thanks for our comments PhilDMorris! I am not sure what influenced Saegusa. I have not seen an artist statement for him. I suspect that you are right, though.

Thanks Jenni! These come in a few finishes. This is my favorite.

Thanks for your comments, Eileen. Saegusa's designs were great at inspiring emotion or giving a sense of movement, I think.

I really love this one Kevin. I used to have a Saegusa ox and tiger in pottery with this sort of cool Art Deco vibe.

Very cool looking green tiger, it's as though he's made from jade and the entire looks kinda reminds me of folded origami. He's very fierce looking, I adore the erect tail and snarl he seems to be giving.

Thanks for your comments, Karen. I have been wanting on of these but wasn't sure that I would ever find one in my price range. Patience is a virtue...

Thanks for your comments LaurenRedmond! Saegusa's designs could really be infused with motion and emotion. I know that some of Saegusa's figures were heavily influenced by origami.

Thanks for loving my Saegusa Sotaro iron tiger Karen, ho2cultcha and Ben!
