    This item is 4 inches tall and 2 1/4 wide and 3/4 inch deep. It might be a perfume bottle? This item was found in NYC around 1940.

      I'd say its a flask. It would hold spirits, I suppose. The grapes and the vine leaves suggest alcohol rather than perfume. I think it is mounted in silver. Somewhere around the neck and cap there could be marks impressed into the silver. If you clean the silver be careful and do not use abrasives. A proper silver cloth might just reveal the marks. There might be a missing glass stopper. But then it might have a stopper device within the lid. It is a nice antique item. I'd wait for some others on the site to give you more advice. If you find any marks post the photos and we can help you with more information.
