This cast iron Japanese rabbit covered box is 3.5" long by 3.25" high x 3" wide and has a Japan/Mountain label. It weighs just under 1.5 lbs. I liked this because it is small, but substantial and has a very nice example of a label that I see on old faux bronze Japanese cast iron. I suspect it has survived in such nice condition as the bottom is a slightly concave. The seller also accepted a significantly lower offer than the asking price. Not sure if this falls into the "okimono class" of Japanese cast iron, but I suspect it does.
I have not been able to identify which foundry uses this label. I am guessing that is it is probably nambu tekki. Made perhaps 1920s-1950s with a WWII gap in the middle of that.
Kevin I just love your bronze rabbit box, great photo angles - its face is adorable!
Thanks for your comments, Jenni! It is a cutie, for sure!
Thanks for your comments, Eileen! It is a very Zen bunny, I agree...
