It was lamp day GW today... This shade is 6" high x 5" widest diameter. It weighs 1 lb 7 ounces. There are at least seven layers of glass: clear - white - clear - brown spatter - clear - red and white spatter - clear which is why it is so heavy. So not complete Chinese junk I think (hope).
I have not been thrift shopping much, usually only when I need to buy bird seed, so maybe once a month I saw this at least twice before today. I think it started at about $8.99 and it was marked $5.99 today but it was blue tag $.99 day today so I bought it.
I really liked it the first time that I saw it as it is a nice piece of glass, but I have absolutely no use for it. I don't have a pendant lamp or any other kind of lamp it would fit on. At $.99, however, having a use for it became moot, and it just became a "purty thang".
Any guesses on where this was made?
If its top opening is the 'standard, modern' size (looks it?!) you'll be able to find pendant light kits at home supply stores for $20 or less -- I got one for a red/black swirl shade (same shape) I found a couple yrs ago which I know was new since it came from the Re-Store in half its original commercial packaging.
Gorgeous red spatter design, great find
Thanks for your comments and information AnythingObscure! I took a quick look on Amazon and found several kits, but there seems to be an issue with the shallowness of the threaded portion that hold the glass shades on many of these kits, in that it is not wide enough. That is based on comments and reviews. Most don't give measurements. I will have to cogitate and see if there is a place where I might hang a pendant light, first, though.
Thanks for your comments, Jenni! I really liked it the first time I saw it.
