I am about to fix up a set of 3 wooden directors chairs that once belonged to my grandfather. I found this label under the arm of one of them as I was cleaning them up but I can find no records of the Troy Sunshade Company ever making directors chairs. Extremely rare? Misplaced sticker? The fabric is long gone but I planned on refinishing the wood and getting new "slings" made, but would like to know more about them before I start sanding.
You can post 4 pictures….even tho you say they are not in great shape, it would likely help to have some pictures of what you do have.

I Googled the company name - they are still in business so you could just contact the company regarding the chairs.
Great minds think alike. I did reach out to them but they told me they really don't have anyone still working there who knows or has access to that kind of information :-(
BUT- when I add some of the additional terms to my search that were on the label... "...for sun parlor porch lawn beach" I came across this https://newspaperarchive.com/bluefield-daily-telegraph-may-01-1929-p-2/. I stopped short of signing up for a membership to get a better look but I think I spot a directors chair in the Troy Sunshade Advertisement. Maybe sometime around 1929?
OK, so I couldn't resist and signed up for the free trial. The ad reads, "It is with pleasure that we announce the premier showing of this very fine Sun Parlor and Porch and Garden Furniture. This furniture is intended to bring a flash of Summer's beauty to the veranda or the indoor rooms throughout the year and to dd that comfort and coziness to the garden which makes of it a veritable summer home. Here is a most interesting exhibit of "Hollywood" and "Folding Arm Chairs from the famous Troy studios.
Troy "Hollywood" Chairs ... The folding wood arm chairs in striped materials and sunset weaves are prices at $5.95. The Hollywood Folding Arm chairs with painted motifs as shown are $8.50.
So... this is from an ad in a paper in April 1927 and the chairs look to have the finials and shape of the ones I have.
BUT... now that I have a decent idea of the history. How do I go about getting a value if I can't find any other ones?
Just below the pictures of your post, there’s the “Value My Stuff” appraisal link. I used it once myself to get an item appraised. I think it cost in the $20 range.
I love those old newspapers’ ads…such a wealth of information….I wish the prices had stayed the same! You did a great job as a sleuth, tracking down your director’s chairs…..when you get them all fixed up, promise us you will update this post with their their new pictures.
