Pictured here are three 1/2 pint amber milk bottles from Indiana. From left to right...1) FT. WAYNE DAIRY CO's BUTTERMILK, 2) V. M. & I. C. Co.'s MILK O for VINCENNES MILK & ICE CREAM 3) WEBER DAIRY BUTTERMILK..INDIANAPOLIS. The number of dairies which used this amber option milk bottle seems very limited. POLK DAIRY..INDIANAPOLIS also utilized this 1/2 pint amber style.
Indianabottlecollector, Very cool. :-)
I don't think I've ever seen amber milk bottles before. It does make you wonder why not, given that tinted glass does help protect the contents.
Perhaps it was that with milk, customers really wanted to see the 'purity' of the product with their own eyes.
That's the first amber hp from Fort Wayne that I've seen. Another one for me to hunt for. :)
According to my records, 17 different dairies had round embossed amber half pints.
There are (at least) two variations of both the V.M & I C Co & the Weber in your photo.
I knew that there variations for the Weber QUART amber milk bottle. I think that I have at least two of them. I really haven't paid much attention to their 1/2 pints. I have seen only one version of the 1/2 pint amber V.M.I.C. bottle. It has been fairly common here in southern Indiana. The same has held true for the V.M.I.C. quart. If you learn what the differences are, let me know & I would be glad to watch for them for you. Although I'm no longer a member of the MILK ROUTE, my contact information is listed inside the front cover of their 2011-2012 membership directory.
Indianabottlecollector, I sent an email to the address in the Milk Route membership directory 2011-2012. It didn't bounce, but I didn't get a reply either. Did you receive it?
Nothing was received. Try inside cover of MILK ROUTE that shows Uncle Sam & New York twin towers September 11, 2001-2011. At top, it says 2011-2012 membership directory. My cell number is listed. It might be better to try calling rather than texting.
