old wooden military field telephone case

I've often wondered what this box used to be -- I've guessed, but only because of somebody else's showing a little while back (of a complete unit) do I now know it used to contain a field telephone set. :-) :-) :-) All remains of that duty are now missing except for (mostly) blocked in/sealed holes, its latch and hinge hardware, and a hint of its original olive green paint around one hole on one side -- thus I still don't know who manufactured it. The carry strap with it is likely also not original, looking to be of good but not 'military' quality and color. It measures 12" x 6" x 13", and now holds an assortment of wall warts and related electrical doo-dads that don't have anywhere else to live... ;-)
